At WorldCon in August, Julia talked to several people about why diversity in YA and SF is important. You can see some of those people in the Why Diversity Matters video on our Pozible page, but we couldn’t fit everyone into that video!

Today, we wanted to share Guadalupe Garcia McCall’s words about her own writing.

At her reading during WorldCon, Guadalupe talked about how she took the story of the Odyssey, and infused it with legends and monsters and folklore from Mexican culture to make Summer of the Mariposas something fresh and original and contemporary. Julia loves this book, and she’s not the only one. It was nominated for a Norton Award! We are really looking forward to finding more stories like this for Kaleidoscope.

Our funding is really close to $6,000, and we have a special announcement coming at that point, so please go to our Pozible page and back Kaleidoscope now!
